The very first day we arrived there were men up on that structure taking off the old roofing materials and preparing for the new and improved roofing materials. The beams from the old roof was made out of wood. The placed all the old wood outside on the side yard of the school. Can we all guess what they did with the old wood. Well first of all they took every single nail out of each piece of wood. At the end of the project they divided the pieces up between all the families who came out to help with the school renovations. Mike and Ernesto got up on the back side of school to start placing the tin in place when Mike spotted a small problem on the front side which required mescal to seal some of the concrete blocks to hold up the medal beams. Immediately a handful of these men got to the project at hand and Mike and Ernesto worked on the back side. One of the biggest talents and gifts these men have is they are so agile and climb up on the beams and make it look so easy. All day long I watch them all climb somewhere if they were not putting mescal into the concrete blocks they were painting the beams to keep them from rusting in later years. This roof was going up in the most professional way and with so much pride by each and every man involved. This is what warmed my heart each day I went to the project is how they took such pride in their work for the children's school. Mike was definitely not being lazy up there all sprawled out, he was being a smart Honduran worker finding shade because he had gotten too hot. Ernesto continued working and once Precious cooled off he went right back to finish the job God had called him to do. Funny story Pastor Carlos had gone to pick up more cement at the hardware store and got there just as Mike and Ernesto finished the entire roofing for the school. This is what I call perfect timing Pastor Carlos. Normally Mike and Pastor Carlos are the roof men but God had a different plan for this roofing job. At the end of the day the roof was up and completed and to God be the glory for everyone being safe and protected.
