Melissa were up there the first morning I believe and she was curious of the process of making tortillas. She asked me about the constituency of making them. I said lady bug you are asking the wrong lady. I took her to the back porch behind the kitchen area where Senovia makes fresh hot tortillas daily with the assistance of Miriam. The two ladies probably make over a 100 in one morning for the day ahead. Senovia was very kind in helping Melissa learn the correct technique in making this delicacy here in Honduras. Melissa became a natural very quickly. She was making them perfectly circular and popping them on the hot pan as Miriam cooked them and flipped them as needed. Senovia patiently stood back with a smile on her face and watched this North American young lady make tortillas for breakfast. Thank you Melissa for wanting to be a part of their culture and participating in this fine art of tortilla making. This is not an easy task especially the first time around and Melissa got it right away and God had a plan for all this as well. Thank you God for Melissa and her willingness to learn something new. Ms. Becky shared in her devotion about if we can make just a difference for one then let's do it. Please read below and know Melissa truly made a difference.
Melissa's heart of learning to make tortillas the first morning came in handy on our third morning. Senovia had to rush away on Tuesday because her daughter who was four months pregnant started having complications. Well as we are a family here everyone came together yesterday to prepare supper for the team as they arrived around five o'clock. But this morning as I was coming down the hill the bad news had arrived to the team as I looked over to the porch to see Melissa making tortillas with Miriam. Senovia's daughter had miscarried her baby so obviously Senovia did not come to work today. Melissa got right out there without being asked helping Miriam make the tortillas for breakfast and the day. Ms. Becky heard what had happen and off she went to help Miriam make the tortillas. This is what you call team work folks. But if Melissa had not shown an interest on Monday on the art of tortilla making she would not have been much use to Miriam this morning. Tears formed on my cheeks as I walked up the hill to see a new team member get what it means to be a community and to help one another out. Thank you Ms. Becky for following your heart and assisting as well. God is good all the time and all the time God is good.
I print this twice. Have you made a difference in just one person's life today. If not I challenge to go the extra mile, get out of your comfort zone and reach just one today, whether you are making tortillas or filling a tooth or cleaning someone's teeth for the first time. Let Jesus use you today to make a difference in the lives of others. You will be more blessed than they are if you do this.
