VBS and More

The out break of pink eye is still hanging around.  This team came prepared with eye drops thanks to team member and nurse Lynn.  Each day Lynn gathered the children together before VBS to share how to protect themselves from getting pink and from spreading it to others.  She shared how to keep your hands clean by washing them and drying them with a clean rag each time if possible.  Please do not put your hands around your eyes and scratch.  The children listened intently as she continued to share the do's and don'ts of pink eye hygiene.  The young man, Erin, age 14 was the first one Lynn treated at church on Sunday.  We did not know what a huge influence he was to his church family and to the children.

Each day the ladies took a different them to VBS.  The first day was "All About Me"  taught by Donna, a new team member this year but said she would be back.   Each day they started out with singing led by our very own Meida.  Meida and ladies learned a new song the children taught them this week.  As the children continued to gather together they kept singing until they felt like they had everyone there.  The first day there was 80 plus children and this was by word of mouth throughout this little piece of Heaven.  Donna shared her story and Meida explained the chart they were going to get to fill out describing who they were.

They got on the floor with their life size poster to complete with a box of crayons provided by the team.  Each lady got down there to help the children fill out their posters.  Interestingly there were so many of the children who could not read their poster or understood the meaning of it.  Possibly they did not go through the sixth grade of school.  So it was fun getting down there with them and helping them write out when they were born, what age they were, who was their favorite teacher and subject in school and many more questions about who they were.
Danielle did what she called the Rec Day.  She shared with the children how our bodies are from God. By being fit and healthy we can carry out what God wants us to do here on earth.  She shared from three different scriptures of the bible, Isaiah 40:29-31 how God will help you and reward your fitness efforts, if they are done in His service and not of out of selfishness.  Put your trust in God and He will guide you.  In Philippians 4:13 Nothing is impossible with God!  Dedicate your recreation and fitness to Christ.  Lastly 2 Timothy 4:7 Fitness is important and can give us more energy to help others but it is crucial to keep your focus on the ultimate goal- eternal life in Heaven.
Danielle brought along the activities for outside, Frisbees, jump ropes, a parachute and some rely games.  Well as you have read the blog to this point there has been a lot of rain.  Danielle did not let that stop her from providing a means of fun for these amazing children.  She broke up the different activities and put them into the Sunday school classrooms, the sanctuary and the hall way of the Sunday School classrooms.  It made me think back when we would have fall festivals and we used the many different classrooms for the activities.  They all had so much fun and they would rotate out every 20 minutes or so till everyone got to go to the parachute which was the biggest hit of all.
On the last day they did the story of Fishers of Men.  Tyler and Dalton did a skit relating to the Bible story.  They made their own fish coming out of Matthew 4:19 about being fishers of men.
This was a spirit filled week in VBS.  Lynn shared how they had 96 bags of goldfish and 96 coloring sheets about the fisher of men and they had 96 children on the last day.  God's provision is always perfect in every single detail.  We just need to look and see HIS provisions.

I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ.
Philemon 1:6
