Happy Birthday Lori

Oh what a very special birthday present to come to Honduras on your very first international mission trip.  Lori I am grateful to God you chose Honduras.  It has been a joy for all of us on this campus and on your team for you to be here.  Your joyful smile lightens everybody's world.  So what better way than to celebrate your birthday all day long.  The ladies on the team with leadership from Uche cooked breakfast for Lori.  She got a smiley face pancake with bacon and eggs and pineapple for breakfast.  The team sang to her before leaving for the day to serve others.  I am assuming she got sang to in Spanish at the church as well.
That evening we gathered for an amazing meal and somehow this delicious birthday cake appeared before all of us.  It actually had written in Spanish Feliz Cumpleamos Lori.  The team the night before passed a homemade birthday card around for everyone to sign secretly right before her actually while we gathered for devotionals.  Lori never knew what was occurring around her. We once again sang to Lori in English and Spanish.  Jose says there is another Honduran tradition and this is to pray over the person celebrating their birthday.  Jose place his hand ever so gently  his sister Loir and prayed a prayer for her life, her family, her husband and her children.  Wow, how precious this was to experience.  But then there is one more tradition the Hondurans have and this is to crack an egg over the birthday person's head.  Here at Mt. Horeb, Mike gets the privilege of doing this, he does put the eggs in a sandwich bag if he really likes you.  This time something went terribly wrong the egg never cracked.  This is a first time for this to happen to Mike.  He was so taken back and Rudy thought it was hilarious.  I have never seen Rudy laugh so hard as he did this evening.
So Lori started cutting her birthday cake and her precious husband, Dr. Terry help give out the plates of birthday cake.  What a way to celebrate your birthday.  I am positive this birthday will be one she will always remember.
Happy Birthday Lori.
