The first day on the project I was watching Jessica very busy running back and forth from her kitchen to the pilla. So I asked Maida what is she doing. Maida shared she makes tortillas to sell daily to her surrounding neighbors. I attentively sat back and observed the process Jessica does on a daily basis to provide income for herself, her five children and her mother, Ramona. First of all she takes the corn to the pilla and washes the corn several times to get them ready to go to a local who grinds the corn into the mixture she needs to make the tortillas. This cost Jessica something to have the corn grounded. Jessica brings back the mixture and makes it into a ball where she then presses out the tortillas. There is one hardship I observed during the pressing of the tortillas. She did not have a tortilla press. She had what looked like to pieces of ceramic where she would place the tortilla ball upon the ceramic tile and then manually with her own strength pressed the ball into a tortilla form. While Jessica is doing all this I kept watching Rony who was not helping with the construction of his home. I thought this a little odd. But Rony had a very important job. Rony collected the firewood that went inside the wood stove where the tortillas are cooked. Rony continuously fed the wood sticks to the fire for the cooking of the tortillas. Jessica makes 200 tortillas in the morning and between 12 noon and 2 PM she sold them to her neighbors. The first day people continuously came to purchase these homemade tortillas which I might add were very delicious. As the week progressed Jessica with money she had been saving was cooking some very delicious lunches for the ones working on her home. This caused her not to be able to prepare the tortillas. There was at least three days Jessica was not able to work to make money for her family but she was receiving a beautiful home which she shared God had given to her and her family. So there was three days Jessica did not make the $4.00 per day she was counting on to provide for her family. Jessica worked from 8 in the morning till 2 in the afternoon making 200 tortillas for $4.00. Thank you Jessica for showing me God's daily provision through the production of your tortillas.
Jesus said to them, "Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven.
For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."
"Sir," they said, "always give us this bread."
Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty."
John 6:32-35
