Our Honduran Culture

The team learned very quickly simple is beautiful.  This family lived out this sample in their daily lives.  They had no running water and no indoor plumbing.  Their kitchen was outside for the most part.  But inside the make shift home until their new home was completed was a beautiful jug.  Cindi's grandmother had given this to her two weeks prior for her new home.  A house warming gift.  You could tell Cindi treasured her grandmother's gift.  She did not know how old it was but shared it was more than sixty years old. As I sat there one day watching the comings and goings of family and friends, one thing touched my heart deeply, Marie Eleana was excited to show her grandmother who had traveled two hours on a bus to be there for this day, her school work.  She went through every page of her work and explained it to her grandmother.  My heart was swollen with joy for this little girl getting to be with her grandmother and at the same time it allowed me to miss my grandsons so much and we may be a different culture but we live out our lives similar.  This grandmother probably has not seen her grandchildren in a while and may have been the first time she saw newborn Cindi of two months.  Traveling to visit family down here is quiet difficult for some if they do not have the means to do so.  We have the same feelings and desires but just live in a different culture.  This little Cindi sleeps in a hot hammock during naptime.  Cindi, the mother was pouring cool water over her to help keep her little one cool.  Please God do not let me complain again about being hot.  This family got hot just like we got hot this week and this is their way of life daily.  So please God forgive me when I am not grateful for what you have given me.  Thank you for sharing the Perez family with us this week and their beautiful culture and how they live out each day with joy with all that they have.
